1. Anaheim Ducks (28-8-5, 61 Points) Last Week: 1

Their franchise record winning streak of 10 games might have come to an end at the hands of San Jose on Sunday night, but it didn’t sully their month of December. With one game remaining in the month they have gone 11-1-1, with their only losses coming to their two California counterparts, Los Angeles and San Jose.

2. Chicago Blackhawks (27-7-7, 61 Points) Last Week: 3

There was a poll earlier this year that asked whether you’d prefer to have Jonathan Toews or Patrick Kane on your team. As you’d expect, Toews thumped Kane in the poll. It might be  time to revisit that question. Kane is 2nd in the NHL in points with 53, 3rd in goals with 23 and is 6th in assists with 30. While Toews is battling it out for the Selke, Kane might be looking at some Hart consideration.

3. San Jose Sharks (25-8-6, 56 Points) Last Week: 7

The Sharks never seem to make it easy for themselves. Five of their last 10 wins have come via the shootout and only one of those regulation wins was by more than two goals. In the past week alone they’ve gone into the skills competition twice and have come out victorious in both occurrences.

4. Pittsburgh Penguins (29-11-1, 59 Points) Last Week: 4

With the exception of the 5-0 drubbing they received at the hands of the Senators last Monday, the Penguins have been able to thrive on some weak competition while a few of their stars tend to their injuries. It also helps that Crosby has been putting up nearly 1.5 points per game since Malkin went down and James Neal has tallied 10 points in five games since returning from his suspension.

5. Los Angeles Kings (25-10-4, 54 Points) Last Week: 2

It’s official, Martin Jones is human afterall. After winning eight straight games and posting a ridiculous 1.00 GAA the rookie finally was dealt the first loss of his career by the Dallas Stars. Los Angeles also showed a few flaws this week, losing two straight games for the first time since November.

And then the rest….
